Steve and Sandra Owens

Steve has lived in Argonia all his life as he attended grade school and high school in Argonia.  Farming is his passion and in his blood.  He is the third generation to farm in Argonia as his grandpa Jack farmed and his father continues to farm.  During the winter months he works in the oil field providing maintenance and overhauling motors for AVG Inc.  Steve’s grandparents, Jack and Mary Owen, were very well liked and respected in the Argonia community and were actively involved with the Argonia UMC.

I grew up outside the city limits of Topeka and attended Northland Christian Church.  After graduating from Kansas State University, I moved to Anthony.  Steve and I met while I worked as a staff accountant preparing his family’s tax returns.  I now work for Harper Hospital as the Chief Financial Officer.  I very much enjoy my job as not only do I enjoy the work that I do, but also enjoy everyone at the hospital.

Steve and I were married on August 26, 2000, (one of the hottest days of the year!!)  We have been blessed with two wonderful boys; Scott is 41/2 and Travis is 14 months.  Scott is our harvest baby as he was born on June 19 and Travis is our Christmas baby and was born on December 26  Scott is currently going to pre-school and will be in kindergarten next year.  Scott loves to be outside!  He enjoys playing T-ball, riding his bicycle, and his dad and Papa farm.  He also enjoys fishing with his uncle Steve and Papa in Topeka.  Travis also likes to be outside as he loves to swing and play with his toy tractors.  He also loves to dance and clap to music.  His favorite TV theme songs to clap and dance to are Spongebob and Dallas!

We are excited about being more involved with our church family at Argonia UMC.  It’s wonderful to see other young families have the same desires and want to raise our children through the love of Jesus Christ  and continue to build our own faith.  The support we have received from the congregation has been wonderful!

Although chain e-mails are not my favorite thing to receive, I have received the following e-mail several years ago that I have kept and  read it frequently to remind me off what life is all about.

The road to success is not straight.  There is a curve called failure, a loop called confusion, speed bumps called friends, red lights called enemies, caution lights called family.  You will have flats called jobs.  But if you have a spare called determination, an engine called perseverance, insurance called faith, a driver called Jesus, you will make to a place called success.

Philippians 4:13; I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
